Reshaping
Race Hats
As race hats can have large brims and a floppy style, it is normal if some race hats to become misshaped in transit, or with general wear. The brim can be reshaped using an iron.
- Place a soft, ironing cloth (or towel) over the brim. Do not sit the iron directly on the hat
- Set your iron on the lowest heat (such as polyester), and gently move the iron across the brim in a consistent motion
- If your iron's lowest heat setting is not effective, slowly and gently increase the heat to the 2nd lowest setting
- Once you've finished steaming the brim, place the hat on a flat surface and leave it to dry naturally
- From there, the brim's shape will reset
Felt Hat Crown
- In the case the crown of your hat becomes misshapen, you can hold the hat over a boiled kettle
- The steam will assist in popping the crown back into the original shape.
Felt Hat Brim
- In the case a shaped brim is squashed, you can hold the hat over a boiled kettle and the steam will assist in popping the brim back into shape.
- In the case a flat brim is misshapen, a cloth may be placed over the surface and a gentle iron can be used to flatten the brim, the hat should then be stored flat, and allowed to cool and dry naturally.
